Jack's ex-fiancée makes a surprise appearance on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS when Susan Walters reprises her role on Friday, February 26, and Monday, March 1.
“I was very surprised to get a call from my L.A. manager about possibly doing the show and was really glad it worked out,” the actress tells Soaps In Depth. “I had a conflict with THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, but they were able to shoot my scenes in one day, and then I flew [from Atlanta] to L.A. the next day. I was so preoccupied with learning lines for both shows and the drama of flying — not my favorite thing,” she adds with a laugh, “that I wasn’t really prepared for how happy I would be to see my old acting buddies and behind-the-camera buddies.”
Since moving to Atlanta, Walters has kept busy with her recurring VAMPIRE role, as well as appearances on ONE TREE HILL and ARMY WIVES, and shooting the movie Blood Done Sign My Name. But she admits her recent stint on Y&R was a blast. “It was great! I realized how much I missed everyone, and it reminded me of how much fun we used to have, and the caliber of work on the show,” she smiles. “Slipping into the character of Diane was effortless, especially after I read the scripts. The character was everything I loved about her — sassy and a bit manipulative. Part of the reason I wanted to come back… was because the two shows were so much fun, and I would be able to work with Peter [Bergman, Jack] and Michelle [Stafford, Phyllis].”
As far as what fans can expect, Walters warns everyone to prepare for fireworks. “Diane is certainly still a troublemaker in that her reasons for visiting weren’t entirely altruistic — at least not in my mind!” she chuckles. “Phyllis and Diane meet head-to-head, and you can imagine where that goes!”
